About Us

The current economic uncertainty and decreases in the workforce have placed additional burdens on the St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters. Rather than be measured by the DOW or the S&P indexes, our clients' highs and lows are measured by their ability to eat, find employment, feel safe, and obtain reasonable housing. As the market decreases by 20-40%, the number of clients we serve each week increases. Each week more and more families come to us seeking help to feed themselves. Currently, the St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters serve over 1.2 million meals each year.

The St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters is a network of food and service programs for the poor that provide a wide range of services to feed, clothe, counsel, and alleviate physical and emotional hunger in a dignified and supportive manner. The St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters takes a comprehensive approach in providing and supporting services that eradicate not only hunger, but the structural causes of hunger. The St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters supports a network of charitable programs that provide a broad range of services for those in need, including the provision of food, clothing, shelter, and related social services for the poor.

There are more than 40 non-profit Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, Safe Havens, Drop In Centers and Shelters supported by St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey. Each location designed their "pantry" with programs to best serve their locations. Full-time social workers are available to meet the needs of clients at each location.
