Dinner for the Needy

On Saturday, February 9, 2019, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters held our "Annual Dinner for the Needy" at St. John's Church, near Penn Station in Manhattan.

While some of our guests that day were homeless, some were simply folks in need of a helping hand (the working poor). Our numerous, wonderful volunteers waited on hundreds of our very special guests, serving them all a hearty, yummy "restaurant style" meal. People were able to get out of the increasingly dismal February weather and into a cozy, dry and warm place. They were able to relax, fill their bellies and experience a little community.

In addition to getting people out of the increasingly dismal February weather and into a cozy, dry and warm place where they could relax and fill their bellies, this event gives our guests a chance to experience a little social interaction and community…as well as to choose a new coat (and other winter weather gear) from donated goods, hopefully giving them something to brave the cold for the rest of the season.

A big #StFFP Thank You shout-out to all who volunteered to help these people in need – but especially to June Tang-How and Ingrid Gerber, who coordinated this annual effort. We couldn’t fulfill our mission without people like you!

Always a popular event after the holidays the room is packed. The chance to sit and eat a hearty meal is welcome.

Thank you to our volunteers who make it all happen with a smile. The hungry are truly fed at this event.

Our clients are genuinely appreciative.
What is more welcoming in the winter than fresh watermellon for dessert.
The meal ends with an oppportunity to take some new clothing.
