GAP Mother's Day Luncheon
On May 9th, the Bronx Borough President celebrated seniors at a special luncheon for centenarians (95-100 years old) as part of its annual Bronx Week celebration. The event was held at the Villa Barone Manor and 3 GAP members were honored. (The Grandparents Advocacy Group assists grandparents and great-grandparents who in their later years find themselves back in the role of raising their young grandchildren, as the parents of the children struggle with drugs or are lost to prison.)
GAP's own Dr. Kathy Gibson, who was at the event, paints the picture: "Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr. said Bronz Week could not start without first paying homage to those who laid the foundation for the community. He gave each centenarian a special greeting and took individual photos with each of our honorees. The rest of us filled two long tables. We had a great meal, danced and were entertained by a group of school children who performed ballroom dances. There was also an outstanding violinist who played familiar popular songs.
We couldn't have planned a better way to honor and celebrate GAP and their centenarains ourselves!
