On Thursday, May 24, 2018, students from the Amber Charter School got to see a St Francis Food Pantries and Shelters-sponsored performance of "The Little Flower," a one-man-show starring Emmy Award-winning actor Tony Lo Bianco as the beloved Mayor of New York, Fiorello H. LaGuardia.

A longtime friend of St Francis Food Pantries, Lo Bianco has appeared in films (such as “The French Connection”), numerous Broadway plays and television shows…and he’s also our perennial favorite celebrity auctioneer at our annual “Doodle for Hunger” Celebrity Art Auction!

An educational, inspirational but still comedic one man show, “The Little Flower” is set in the 1945 city hall office of Mayor La Guardia during his final day as three-term mayor of New York City. It’s a real glimpse into the life and career of La Guardia, a champion of the poor and under privileged. The New York Times called it Lo Bianco’s “finest performance,” while the New York Post said, “It would be a crime to miss it.”

We’d like to send a special thank you to the Amber Charter School’s Christine Ganey for helping to coordinate this outing for the students.

Students were accompanied by teachers into... ...New York City, where they took over the theater.

Tony LoBianco takes on the life of LaGuardia. The students couldn't have been happier over the experience.
