St. Patrick's Day & Macy's Volunteers

On March 17, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters held its Annual "St. Patrick's Day Luncheon" presented by Macy's as part of “Bag Hunger” month. Two groups of Macy’s volunteers came to Encore Community Center to help serve lunch and socialize with NYC seniors on St Patrick’s Day.

Festivities included lunch (traditional Irish fare, of course!), handing out goodie bags of chocolate “gold,” and finally the party ended with the tables being cleared and some Irish dancing. (PB+J sandwiches were provided for seniors to take home, too; after all, this event was part of the Bag Hunger program.)

Volunteers from Macy's not only helped to serve this meal to the seniors in attendance, they also brought a convivial atmosphere of companionship. This display of fellowship goes a long way to feeding the soul and was greatly appreciated by attendees and volunteers alike.

A big Irish go raibh maith agat ("thank you") to the Encore Community Center for their help in coordinating this festive annual event…and of course to everyone at Macy's who help make this party possible. Erin go Bragh!

One group of volunteers arrived at 11am for the 1st seating. The next group of volunteers arrived at 1230 for the 2nd seating.

Some volunteers served a classic Irish feast of corned beef potatoes and cabbage. Others served drinks.

As well as carried trays of food for the elderly to their seats. And happily cleaned up after them.

We could not agree more.
Entertainment included bags of chocolate gold handed out by our leprechaun.
A festive day - an Irish feast and good company was had by all.
And after lunch, Irish music and dancing!
