Food For Thought
While this time of year always has us looking forward to warmer weather and a renewed sense of purpose, the past couple of months were a great start to the new decade for St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters.

We hosted our annual “Thanksgiving in February” last month in the church hall at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan. Why February? Because it’s a time when monetary and in-kind donations have slowed down after the uptick during holiday season. So this event is a big help and a friendly reminder to our clients that they are not forgotten.

Our "Annual Dinner for the Needy" event at St. John's Church is always a success…but this year it’s tinged with the loss of June Tang-How, who coordinated and ran this event year, but recently lost her battle with cancer.

We want to shine a spotlight on St John’s Bread of Life Food Pantry – located on 30th Street just off 7th Ave – as it’s been serving its neighborhood for almost 50 years. St. John’s serves 350 families every week. It’s a place for people to come that need something, anything…not just food.

We’d also like to take some time to highlight the work of Mary Anne Fusco, who has led a very successful annual coat drive for St. Francis for the past 20 years. To date, Mary Anne and her team have collected and distributed more than 15,000 coats, scarves and winter accessories to our many clients and their families. Learn more about the important work she does for so many.
