St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters - Doodle for Hunger XI

lead story

Food For Thought
Like many of you, Spring is warmly welcomed by St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters each year. In addition to a much-needed change in weather, with everyone enjoying the end of the cold months and exuberantly anticipating the warmer summer months to come, Spring brings a renewed sense of purpose. It’s also marks the beginning of a long run of annual happenings…as well as new ways to help needy families in the New York City area.

Spring is also a perfect time to shine the spotlight on one of most enduring and committed partners: Macy’s. Over the course of StFFP’s history, our organization has formed an enduring relationship with hundreds of Macy's volunteers who believe that "volunteering is always in fashion." It is an honor to have the unwavering support of Macy's, which goes far beyond just monetary contributions.

Also every Spring, Macy's employees join forces with St. Francis to make PB&J sandwiches for our network of food pantries. This year, hundreds upon hundreds of Macy’s volunteers made more than 25,910 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which were then distributed throughout our network of food pantries and soup kitchens.

On March 17, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters held its Annual "St. Patrick's Day Luncheon" presented by Macy's as part of “Bag Hunger” month. Two groups of Macy’s volunteers came to Encore Community Center to help serve lunch and socialize with NYC seniors on St Patrick’s Day.

Our friends from Macy's also came together at St John's parish recently to prepare Easter dinner baskets for families in need. Filling baskets with food found on a traditional Easter celebration table, these baskets were then shipped out to multiple locations where families were able to pick up a meal for them to serve at Easter. In all, more than 200 Easter dinner baskets were prepared and distributed.
