St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters - Doodle for Hunger XI

lead story

Food For Thought
The year seems to have flown by - it is nearly 2015!

On November 6, 2014 St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters held its Fifteenth Anniversary Doodle For Hunger Celebrity Art Auction at Pier Sixty Chelsea Piers. Hosted by Fox 5's news anchor Ernie Anastos, this exciting occasion included a cocktail party and buffet, "Doodle" preview and Silent and Live Auction.

The Guests of Honor were Mariano Rivera, Legendary New York Yankees Closer and Tony Orlando, Musical Icon ("Tie A Yellow Ribbon") who thrilled the crowd with his classic hits. Margo and John Catsimatidis were the Presenting Sponsors of this special event. The evening was attended by over 800 guests and raised more than $700,000 to benefit St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters.

Original, signed works of "Doodle" art created by Lady Gaga, Phil Jackson, Sutton Foster, Charles Fazzino, Carol Burnett, LeRoy Neiman, Jodie Foster and Howard Stern were among this year's offerings.

In early October students from one Manhattan high school had the chance to enjoy an afternoon away from school, at performance of the one-man show "The Little Flower" featuring Tony Lo Bianco. During this sponsored performance, the young attendees gained unique insight into New York's beloved former Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia.

Corporate Volunteers from Grassi & Co. were the latest to partake in our ever-popular "Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Making Day." Not only was it the accounting firm's time partnering with us, but they closed down all three of their offices so that their 200 employees could partake in this special project. (You will not believe how many sandwiches they made!)

This year, The New School's Recreation Department celebrated its 5th Annual "5K Turkey Trot" and we were lucky to be the recipient of the funds raised!

Thanksgiving can be a challenging time for those who are less fortunate. With the help of Gristedes Supermarkets (owned by our supporters Margo and John Catsimatidis) we are giving customers an opportunity to conveniently "Put a Turkey on the Table" as they check-out.
